Only a few more day’s until the Renegade Craft Fair! I’m almost all ready, and soooo excited!
While I’ve been busy finishing things up, I stumbled upon Waxing Poetic. This jewelry company has a beautiful website and super sweet designs. Here are a few of my favorites:
What better way to make a decision?

The ravioli! So cute! (they also have a pierogi, tortellino and a wonton)

I need this one!
This is one of most unique bestie necklace I’ve seen in a long time.
I wanted to share with you some of my new favorite Etsy artists! The following artists have created things that wander into my mind all day and night.

The photos are so beautiful – they look like an accumulation of cells, and each one individually looks like it’s own universe. They’re all made of recycled plastic too! Find these (and more amazing pieces) here.

Pouches, pin cushions and wall hangings – all decorated with exquisitely hand stitched mold! I love to see bacteria blooming- the colors, textures, and the patterns of their growth. Amazing! See more of these beauties here.

Pen and ink drawings are some of my favorites. These prints have so much depth and texture. These remind me of sprawling lichens and mushrooms, or an electron microgram. These lovely prints (and so many more) are here.
I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at these as much as I do!
I found etsy seller BeHappyNow, and I’m totally in love with these pieces:

This is called My Lovely Plume and I think it’s just exquisite. I love the fine details and all the textures and patterns.
This is also called My Lovely Plume:

These would be so lovely framed side by side.
I also really love this photo of a hand crafted scene:
So colorful and full of humor, light-hearted and joyful. I love this little world!
I found these images on one of the blogs I frequent, and am so in love with these paintings by Julie Evans:

I love how organic these paintings feel. They remind me, ever so slightly, of mold blooms. Lovely.
I also have recently come across another painter named Emilie Clark. I wasn’t able to find a lot of info on her, but I did find a great deal of her work here.

I just love these elegant forms that are so delicately rendered with exquisite detail and an easy precision. I also really like how the intense, vibrant pools of colors are balance by expanses of white space.
I’m currently working at re-opening my etsy shop, emilyeps.etsy.com. The initial body of work is generally inspired by cellular forms, which is something I’ve been obsessed with since I was in college ( i graduated in 2006). Here’s one of the pieces:

I’m also including images in the listing of some of the images that inspire me, like this one:

I thought I would use this post to show some of the other cell-centered designs I’ve found on etsy:
Stem Cell Scarf by GapToothGirl.

I also love this Amoeba T by Isotope. They have quite a few really cool science-y designs.
I’m totally into these Microscopic Pins by SeaPod.
Lately I have been dreaming of tools much more frequently than most other material wants. Material wanting is something that I am very prone to, and I usually try really hard to control it. But right now, metalsmithing tools are all I can think about:

My simply illustrated list is inspired by Keri Smith, who I really dig. She wrote a few books that I have (you should have them too), called Wreck this Journal, and How to be an Explorer of the World. She’s very cool and has amazing things on flickr.
Here is a list of hers that I really enjoy:
I really like how simple the drawings are. I think it’s a good way to exercise your brain and remind yourself that all things can be artistic, even making lists.
A series of some of my current favorites:

photograph by Jennifer Dennis Potter.

real terrariums from etsy shop made by mavis.

I found this terrarium here, the current featured seller on etsy!
These images are filling my head with all kinds of magical ideas….
I went to the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco – so much fun! I saw a lot of beautiful stuff and bought myself a little treat too:

It’s a ceramic heart made by Sara Paloma, an artist based in Emeryville, CA. I can’t wait to hang it up in my new apartment!
When i think of magic, i don’t think of david copperfield (do you remember him?), or pulling a rabbit out of a hat. to me magic is in all the little things that transpire between people, and sometimes it’s the things that people create. magic is creating awe and wonder, inspiration and amazement. it gives you goose bumps and makes the hairs on your arm stand up. this is the kind of magic i believe in:
when i was in maine last week visiting my family, i stayed with my brother for a night of debauchery and fun. i’ve shared some of his illustrations here before, and now i have some some shots of his desk (and a few sneaky shots of some new pictures).

i’ve been really interested lately in seeing other people’s work spaces. my business partner and i have been struggling to be organized but also needing to have materials sprawled around us for inspiration. i like how my brother’s work space is covered with bits and pieces of in-progress work, finished work and new materials.

i really like the way he’s introducing color to his characters. here is another piece of sculpture he made from this past year at school:

i think it’s a table (?)

(detail of the top)
I miss my brother a lot. He just completed his second year at Maine College of Art (where i also graduated from). it’s been so hard living so far from home. i constantly feel like i’m missing so much of a really important time for my brother.
