I’m super excited to share that I just dropped off a bunch of jewelry at a new store in Alameda, called Modern Mouse! The store won’t be open until November 9th, but it’ll be worth the wait, because the wares are bound to excite and impress. Here’s a peek at some of the pieces I’ll have there:

Petri Dish Earrings

Cell Stem Earrings, Sterling Silver

Cell Formation Necklace, Sterling Silver
You should definitely check Modern Mouse out if you’re in the bay area. You can go to the website (link above) to see a lot of the other artists that will have goods for sale there. I can’t wait for the grand opening on Saturday, November 14th (from 2 to 6pm!).
My new inspiration:

Cooooool!
These are the earrings I’ve just listed in my shop - my version of a petri dish!

They’re available in 3 sizes and I’m so excited about them

I hope you like them!
I’m currently working at re-opening my etsy shop, emilyeps.etsy.com. The initial body of work is generally inspired by cellular forms, which is something I’ve been obsessed with since I was in college ( i graduated in 2006). Here’s one of the pieces:

I’m also including images in the listing of some of the images that inspire me, like this one:

I thought I would use this post to show some of the other cell-centered designs I’ve found on etsy:
Stem Cell Scarf by GapToothGirl.

I also love this Amoeba T by Isotope. They have quite a few really cool science-y designs.
I’m totally into these Microscopic Pins by SeaPod.
I’ve been living in my new apartment for about 2 months now. It feels like home, though there is still much work to do- lots of art to finally hang, the bathroom to paint, and a new curtain idea for the bedroom… not to mention a load of other projects I’m dying to make for the place!
Along the same lines, my friend Tay emailed this link to me a while ago, and i really love the idea:

I love how all those old (and yucky?) plates have been transformed into a study of pattern, color and composition (art nerd?). I think one of my favorite things about the arrangement is how each plate is different- some with scalloped egdes, some with no frilly details at all. I love when large pieces (or in this case, installations) have small moments within itself that allow you savor all the details and differences.
(This project came from Apartment Therapy.)
These are some new pictures of my new home. Mostly the bedroom…
The new bed spread i’m in love with:
2 prints i recently framed, above the bed:
some jewelry display on my dresser:
updated jewelry shadow box:
i’ve shared this jewelry shadow box before, but i finished painting it and added the sweet little glass birds to the arrangement (i’ve got 2 more blue glass birds to find homes for too).
the apartment is feeling more like home every day. our living room has lots of work waiting to happen. i’ve been envisioning a large empty wall that will house a sort of collage of old family photos with small shadow boxes of old family objects. my lady and i have many relics that belonged to relatives. they are so cherished and we really want to give them space to celebrate our families and our histories.
On my day off this week my lady and I went to Urban Ore in Berkeley. It’s kind of like a thrift store on a larger scale… mostly building materials and furniture and fixtures. they have aisles and aisles of:

doors,

door knobs,

various styles of drawers and shelves,

tons of cool old (and not really that old) vases and jars,

and these (the base plate?) for door knobs.
On top of seeing this really inspiring collection of materials (I’m going to be moving to a new apartment in just over a month), I also found this crazy thing:

yes. it’s a crazy cat lamp. maybe the craziest I’ve ever encountered….
Whoa.
A few weekends ago my lady and I took a trip down to Carmel/Monterey Bay and went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was all kinds of fun and there was an exhibit on jellyfish that was just amazing. It was titled something like: “Jellies, Living Art” (or something to that effect?) I thought this was a really interesting concept. The jellies really did mimic art, with their swirling trails of fine lines tangling in the tanks, making all kinds of drawings in the blue water. Also cool: a lot of the tanks had big picture frames around them to further push the idea home:

My brother Oliver is in a exhibition/contest at his school and he’s showing a collection of his drawings (check out the earlier post about his illustrations). I’m so dissappointed that I can’t see all of this work in person, but here is a picture of his arrangement:

My brother Oliver is an artist like me. But unlike me, he excels at things like drawing and painting. While I enjoy these activities, they are clearly part of Oliver’s day to day life as an artist.
He’s been working on a body of work that i find really exciting and inspiring. He creates small drawings of characters that he’s invented, and collects old thrift store frames to house them. I think the old and vintage frames add a lot of depth and character to the simple line drawings.
Here are some of my favorites:

His current lot of these drawings is around 45, and he hopes to accomplish a group of 100! I’d love to see them in a mass on one wall, or even a giant drawing combining all the characters.
Also of interest is a video of one of his kinetic sculptures. You can see it on YouTube.
lots of rain in the bay area right now, so i’ve gathered some images of the sun:
