I just posted a new ring earlier today in my etsy shop:

myring

It’s made with a glass eye – the kind used for taxidermy. It’s pretty creepy, but I think it’s the coolest. I found some other eye’s I want to buy and make into jewels:

carousel-horseThis is for a Carousel Horse – a bright splash of color.

general-fishThis is just for general fish use (?), but I love all the depth in it.

warthog1This last one is a Warthog eye.

The creepy factor is combated with the beauty in the detail of these glass eyes. They all have so much detail and depth, they really are like little jewels.

I’m currently working at re-opening my etsy shop, emilyeps.etsy.com. The initial body of work is generally inspired by cellular forms, which is something I’ve been obsessed with since I was in college ( i graduated in 2006). Here’s one of the pieces:

I’m also including images in the listing of some of the images that inspire me, like this one:

I thought I would use this post to show some of the other cell-centered designs I’ve found on etsy:

il_430xn17557481Stem Cell Scarf by GapToothGirl.

I also love this Amoeba T by Isotope. They have quite a few really cool science-y designs.

il_430xn56071557I’m totally into these Microscopic Pins by SeaPod.

I could have used one of these today:

Yep. The perfect accessory for a hard day at the office.

this website has a few other silly things… interesting in the ways of marketing, function and humor in art.

So I found Vling in a magazine and the website was cooler than I had anticipated. All the jewelry (necklaces, earrings, pins) is made from recycled vinyl records that have been cut into dramatic silhouettes. In addition to the great graphic appeal, all the jewelry is surprisingly affordable. What could be better?!

I love how this recycled / re-purposed material lends itself so well to such graphic and cool accessories.
