I wanted to share with you some of my new favorite Etsy artists! The following artists have created things that wander into my mind all day and night.

The photos are so beautiful – they look like an accumulation of cells, and each one individually looks like it’s own universe. They’re all made of recycled plastic too! Find these (and more amazing pieces) here.

Pouches, pin cushions and wall hangings – all decorated with exquisitely hand stitched mold! I love to see bacteria blooming- the colors, textures, and the patterns of their growth. Amazing! See more of these beauties here.

Pen and ink drawings are some of my favorites. These prints have so much depth and texture. These remind me of sprawling lichens and mushrooms, or an electron microgram. These lovely prints (and so many more) are here.
I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at these as much as I do!
I’ve been working on an idea I have for a rib cage inspired earring/pendant. I’m sort of stuck at the moment, trying a lot of things aren’t working out so well, so I’m taking a break to look at some pictures for inspiration and possible solutions…
I like these pictures the best:
(illustrating the motion as you breathe in and out).

I also like the geometry that is so present in this picture; the squareness of the ribcage / shoulder area and the black wire (supporting the skeleton) that contrasts the color and direction of the ribs.
I also found this:

Whoa! This piece of luggage is by Alexander McQueen (of corse), and it’s so creepy and fantastic! You can read a little about here.
I’m heading back to my bench for a few more tries on my project.
my head has been swarming. i’ll share a few pictures that have been filling dreams…

Narwhals are my favorite

Ernst Haeckel (late 1800’s – early 1900’s) was a German biologist and philosopher (among other things). He is so fascinating to me!
so i was searching who-knows-what online yesterday and came across this site that had a menu of different catagories to find images of “textures and colors”. i was super thrilled immediately, as i am hugely fascinated by textures and patterns in plants and cellular forms. the site was actually very disappointing to me, but did however, inspire me to create my a new blog. The blog will be a chronicle of sorts for the patterns and textures that i encounter. from sand and wood grain, to lichen and leaves, i’ll be posting images i’ve collected through fascination and exploration. go to thetextureofthings and hopefully you’ll find something inspiring or interesting.
this is a project that i’m very excited about.
I’ve been struggling lately with a deep desire to blog regularly and maintain some sort of regular flow of creativity coming. i feel like i’ve been having lots of ideas lately too, and instead of just instantly producing something fabulous, they have been trickling out of me slowly in strange ways. this should really not be any sort of surprise, but it’s hard not to frustrate myself. anyways, i took today off of work and have finally had enough consecutive daylight hours to work through some ideas and share them!
these are two images that I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from lately in my drawings:

the pods (or fruit) of the eucalyptus are endearing, tiny, sweet and mysterious to me. As i have begun drawing them in my sketch book they loose their relationship to the tree and stand on their own, on tall stalks in a field or perhaps under the sea, in tight clusters or singularly:

as my obsession for these forms grow, my mother’s birthday is soon approaching, so i will share these new creatures with her too:

I’m here because I needed a place to organize and share the research I do to feed into my art and design projects. I learned in school that if you’re inspired and thoughtful, almost everything you do can be research. From google image searches to anthropology or medical books, I find myself on a never ending search for inspiration. Fortunately I rarely find myself disappointed in my quest. Here are a few images I really enjoy:
