I’m taking today to say thank you to my Uncle Russell (and all those who have served). My uncle passed away several years ago, so I find this day very emotional.

Grandma Helen and Uncle Russell (at my mother's wedding)

Uncle Russell, his beard, and baby me!

One of my favorite stories about Uncle Russell was that when he left Viet Nam, he ended up in California. He got his first motorcycle, and drove all the way across the country before calling home. Instead, he just ended up walking into the backdoor of the house where my mom, Grandma Helen and Grandpa Howard were living.
Thank you.
In just a few short hours, my mom and brother will touch down in Oakland California! This is only their second visit since I’ve been living out here (for 3 years!) and I’m so happy to have them back here.

I can’t wait to share all about the adventures we’ll be having.
I was forwarded this photo contest and found the most lovely pictures of all kinds of mysterious sea creatures. This is one of my favorites:

I want to make a pair of earrings based on their funny little stick legs and antenna (or whatever it is going on on top of their heads!).
I also just wanted to share that my mom and brother were just in town visiting. I hadn’t seen them since December, so it was really nice to have them visit.

We didn’t even mean to all wear blue! Guess we all think a bit a like. We had a really nice visit, but I’m sad to have them go.
I’ve been in Maine for about a week and a half while my mother is recovering from surgery (knee replacements!). In between running errands, cooking, and hanging out, I’ve been doing some rumaging through old pictures. Here is a funny assortment of my brother Oliver and me:
6 and 8 years old (aren’t our catholic school uniforms cute?)
I must be about 2 years old here. I look like I’m trying to squish Olli’s head. And doesn’t my dad look like Steve Carell?
Ahhh, winter in Maine…
Adorable or what?
i’m thinking a lot about my mom these days. she’ll be undergoing some pretty serious surgery in a few weeks. it is a much need surgery, so i’m really relieved- but quite scared too. it feels really hard to articulate much about this, so instead, i’ll share some photos of my mother as a young, amazing person.
