and these sweet little critters:

2 of my most wonderful friends have recently been joined in harmonious marriage. Their ceremony was small, filled with their closest family. So my sweetie and I threw a “friends” party to congratulate them.
This party was the only party I have ever really spent a great deal of time and resources on, and I couldn’t have been more pleased.

I’ve seen these types of banners before, so I was really excited to try my had at it for the occasion. I used some cute floral fabric cut into triangles (cut with pinking shears, edges left raw), spelled out my message with iron-on letters from the craft store, and then affixed the little flags to a long length of ribbon. Voila! Though you can’t really see in this picture, I also added little butterfly pins in a few spots. Cute!

I also made a huge center-piece with long branches of curly willow (I had been eyeing it for weeks), cat tails (my sweetie’s idea!) and dried “money plant” branches (little silvery-papery coins). The vase was weighted down with tumbled stones and filled up with dried moss. This was also adorned with sweet little butterfly pins.

Top it all off with good friends and good food (including these delectable dark chocolate cupcakes made Anna), and we all had a lovely time. Thank you everyone who helped celebrate!
Only a few more day’s until the Renegade Craft Fair! I’m almost all ready, and soooo excited!
While I’ve been busy finishing things up, I stumbled upon Waxing Poetic. This jewelry company has a beautiful website and super sweet designs. Here are a few of my favorites:
What better way to make a decision?

The ravioli! So cute! (they also have a pierogi, tortellino and a wonton)

I need this one!
This is one of most unique bestie necklace I’ve seen in a long time.
I’ve such a wonderful weekend
Lots of sun in the bay area, and I’m feeling really good about the amount jewelry I’ve been making. Here’s a peek of some new organic hoops I’m working on (they’re not finished yet):
I really enjoy how none of them are exact matches to each other. What do you think?
Also, my bestie just got a new baby kitten:

This is Bruce. He’s the craziest, spastic little guy I’ve even met. Isn’t just adorable?! I love my little nephew!
This evening I stumbled upon a miracle! Tiny leaves had begun to sprout in my hanging fruit/veggie basket. A lonely little potato has been waiting so long to be transformed into dinner, that it began to imagine its own new beginning:

How spectacular! I’ve never seen such a glorious potato in my own kitchen. It’s bright purple stalks and veiny leaves are such a sight to behold.

Look how brightly the purple veins contrast against the green leaf. I just love it. How incredible that this little fellow, impatiently sitting in my kitchen, was so sick of sitting still, he decided to sprout a forest of purple and green.
The flowers I bought at the farmer’s market last weekend might be dead, but who needs them when I have this little guy?
Yesterday I took a little day trip with my two best friends to Martinez and Benicia. Not very far from home in Berkeley, but very different. We stopped in Martinez first and stumbled upon a farmer’s market on a street that was lined with the most incredible thrift / vintage shops ever!

I probably spent too much money, but among the highlights: square shaped bakelite hoop earrings (OMG!), a plaid shirt with pearl snaps and fringe (total cowgirl chic) and a bright aqua ottoman (same color as the chair above).

Tay, me, Linz. BF’s forever. Really.
Then we went over to Benicia. Not quite as stellar as Martinez had been, but we stopped and got yummy food and looked at the ocean.

I hope you had a lovely long weekend too!
Currently, my most favorite place to find inspiration is called the Clipart ETC (Educational Technology Clearinghouse). This site has tons of clip art (simple, black and white images) in a multitude of categories, including science, cellular biology, microorganisms and plants. If I could only explain how exciting this is to me!
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve started to include some the images that inspire me in my etsy listings when I add new pieces to the shop, and here are some brand new sneak peeks – inspired by: frog blood.

In other news, I got two new tattoos this past weekend:
These are the alchemy symbols for Silver (on the left) and Gold (on the right). I just love them.
On my day off this week my lady and I went to Urban Ore in Berkeley. It’s kind of like a thrift store on a larger scale… mostly building materials and furniture and fixtures. they have aisles and aisles of:

doors,

door knobs,

various styles of drawers and shelves,

tons of cool old (and not really that old) vases and jars,

and these (the base plate?) for door knobs.
On top of seeing this really inspiring collection of materials (I’m going to be moving to a new apartment in just over a month), I also found this crazy thing:

yes. it’s a crazy cat lamp. maybe the craziest I’ve ever encountered….
Whoa.
